The renowned publisher has welcomed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the development team at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Shift Comes After Lukewarm Response

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure updated employees about this decision through an official communication, which stressed that playtesting had revealed the need for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a refreshed vision, aiming to address community desires.

A Pattern of Key Acquisitions

The news follows a similar action taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the entire text from the president's memo:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the good news. Previously I sent you all a note, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to work with - and we’re looking forward for that relationship to persist.”

Given your hard work and adaptability, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It validated the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the requirement for a clearer vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to consideration and revamped Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s ready to achieve its potential to our audience.

The trust in this project grows every day. To boost the incredible development you’ve made, I am thrilled to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Lead of the team. After a period of talks, he starts with us on the specified date.

Ben’s management and expertise in the PVP shooter space is vast, having devoted the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, including the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.

I invite you all in greeting him soon. We are all excited to keep witnessing the progress of the game in the months to ahead.

The President

Background of the Incoming Leader

The appointee presently serves in the position of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. He earlier worked at major gaming companies in multiple development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had periods at other industry leaders.

Game Details and Vision

Project Ethos was announced in October 2024 alongside a community playtest. Initially, the developers described the game as a "no-cost, 3rd-person roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the category."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the official summary states. "Face the opponents with new abilities, risks, and tests that change every session. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and hope your group can achieve the highest spot? The option is in your hands."

Project Ethos has not yet received an official debut schedule or supported systems, but enthusiasts can anticipate more updates as development advances.
