Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then found numerous other vandalized cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state early analysis show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; authorities are currently not aware of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the community for information.
An important representative commented the attack made him stunned and required to be resolved promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
